US Airways Suspends Seasonal Flights to Europe

TEMPE (US Daily) - This weekend marks the temporary close of five seasonal European destinations: Barcelona, Dublin, Glasgow, Shannon and Venice. The five stations all supported Boeing 767 service to Philadelphia between May and October.

"In each of these stations, small teams of employees come together each year to learn our systems and procedures quickly before facing daily overbooked flights from almost the first day of operations," said Andy Kynoch, senior manager of customer service for Europe. "A huge thank you to supervisors Shirley Carroll, Simon Bridges, Therese Jager, Marta Trafi and Marco Adams and to our part time agents for a job well done. We look forward to seeing them all back next year.

US Airways Signs Lease to Expand in Tempe

TEMPE (US Daily) - US Airways has signed a lease agreement for 148,000 square feet at Rio West Business Park (west of CHQ on Rio Salado Parkway) to house select groups of employees in Tempe. An estimated 750 employees are expected to move into the new facilities, including customer relations and other support departments. Plans call for an April 2006 move-in.

To clarify, a Friday report in the Arizona Republic described the new space as being an "operations center." However, the reporter's use of the word "operations" differs from an airline's use, in which "operations" includes SOC, OCC, dispatch, etc. The new space is earmarked for the various support departments; however, no decision has been made regarding the combined operations center's location. Currently, operations has an "East" presence in Pittsburgh and a "West" presence in Tempe.

Benefits Enrollment for US Airways Ends Sunday

TEMPE (US Daily) - For US Airways employees (that's pre-merger US Airways, not AWA employees), 2006 annual enrollment ends Sunday, Oct. 30. Enrollment is available only through the US Airways BenefitCenter Web site or via a link on theHub. Use the Web site to review your coverage elections and dependent information and make changes for 2006. If you aren't making any changes, you don't have to do anything, because your current elections will automatically renew on Jan. 1 at the 2006 rates.

There is one exception: Your current Flexible Spending Account (FSA) elections do not automaticall renew in 2006. If you want to participate in a Health Care or Dependent Care FSA for 2006, you will need to enroll. If you don't, your FSA participation will stop on Dec. 31, 2005, and you will not be able to participate in an FSA in 2006 (unless you experience a qualified change in status event).

For enrollment details, visit theHub or http://usairways.benefitcenter.com.

In mid-November, you'll receive a statement in the mail confirming your 2006 coverage and the associated costs, even if you don't make any changes to your coverage. AWA employee benefits enrollment deadline is just a day later, on Oct. 31.
