Bid 01-02 Highlights

Captain Bruce Beighlie - ALPA Bid Closing Chairman has reported the following highlights from bid 01-02:

The bid will open on Friday, January 5th and close at 23:30 on Monday, January 15th. The effective months will be April, May and June.

The active fleet (on which the bid is planned) will increase from 382 aircraft in April to 386 aircraft in June. Total aircraft block hours will increase by .5% from April to June. Total bid positions will decrease by 33, from 5320 permanent bid positions in March to 5287 bid positions in June (table follows). The ability to reduce bid positions with a growing fleet and increased block hours represents efficiencies derived from fleet standardization as well as a redistribution of surplus Captain positions in various domiciles.

The first MD-80 aircraft will be retired during this bid and as a result, 6 MD-80 lines will be reduced in June. Additionally, all DC-9 flying will be reduced in DCA effective at the end of March. The 767 damaged in PHL will not be reflected in this bid resulting in a decrease of 9 lines.

The fleet will add 7 A321 type aircraft during the bid period.
